Myths and truths about emergent bilingualism in kindergarten: (Bachelor thesis)

This undergraduate thesis focuses on the topic of early emergent bilingualism in kindergarten and the stereotypes associated with it. The study is based on an extensive literature review with the ultimate goal of informing parents and educators so they can effectively support the development of this form of bilingualism. In the first chapter general information on bilingualism and its effects on preschool children are presented. In the second chapter scientific data and findings, separating myths from reality are examined. Also, advantages and challenges of emergent bilingualism for this age group are noted. In the third chapter, the decisive contribution of the family to children's bilingual development is analysed and in the fourth the influence of educators to them. Finally, strategies and supportive practices are proposed that can be implemented by both parents and educators with the aim of strengthening and promoting the favourable development of bilingual children.
