Διδασκάλου, Μαρία/ Didaskalou, Maria/ Στελέχη Εκπαίδευσης στις Επιστήμες της Αγωγής/ Educational Leadership, Management and Administration

This thesis examines Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its contribution to the teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary education, combining a theoretical approach with empirical research. It first presents the fundamental concepts, tools and applications of AI, as well as the challenges arising from its spread at social and educational level. It then analyses how AI is integrated into education and, more specifically, into mathematics teaching, the potential benefits for the personalization of learning and the development of higher-order skills, as well as the difficulties and concerns that emerge. The literature review includes recent studies and meta-analyses on AI tools and generative systems, such as chatbots, focusing on their effects on learning performance and on teachers’ and students’ perceptions. The research part presents the methodology, sample and data collection tools, followed by an analysis of mathematics teachers’ perceptions and experiences regarding the use of AI in teaching, as well as the advantages, concerns and pedagogical implications derived from the findings. Finally, the main conclusions are formulated, the implications for educational practice are discussed, and directions are proposed for future research on the pedagogically grounded integration of AI in mathematics education.
