Adolescent massification: (Master thesis)

This paper examines adolescent massification as a social, cultural and bioethical phenomenon, focusing on the formation of adolescent identity under the influence of mass media, consumer culture and digital social networking platforms. The theoretical framework is based on the concepts of the social construction of identity, mass society and digital massification, with particular emphasis on the modern and late modern dimensions of adolescence, the processes of homogenization and its bioethical implications. The research method is a bibliographic review, aiming to integrate theoretical, sociological, psychological and bioethical sources, in order to highlight the connection between digital participation and the social and mental well-being of adolescents. The results of the analysis show that adolescent massification is associated with the intensification of social surveillance, the normalization of behavioral patterns, and the commodification of subjectivity. Digital platforms, through algorithms, filters, and measurable indicators such as likes and visibility, reinforce conformity to dominant norms, influence self-esteem, and create environments of comparison and social pressure. At the same time, family, school, and the media shape frameworks of recognition, expectations, and normalization within which adolescent identity is constructed but also constantly negotiated. In conclusion, it is emphasized that adolescent massification is a multidimensional social and bioethical issue, with consequences for the autonomy, mental health, dignity and rights of adolescents, and the need for interdisciplinary approaches and protection policies, as well as pedagogical interventions that promote critical thinking, digital self-regulation and the strengthening of the identity of young people, is highlighted.
