Drilling cuttings treatment methods and uses (Master thesis)
Βολιώτης, Κωνσταντίνος/ Voliotis, Konstantinos/ Oil and Gas Technology
Promoting environmental sustainability requires effective waste management and treatment, especially in sectors like oil and gas development. Drill operations, drill fluid (mud) and drill cuttings treatment techniques are examined in this thesis, with a focus on technologies those enable efficient processing and drill cutting reuse. In order to manage drill cuttings and reduce their negative effects on the environment, the study starts with a summary of the main treatment techniques, such as mechanical separation technologies like shale shakers, centrifuges, and hydrocyclones.
The study then explores secondary treatment approaches, emphasizing technologies such as thermal desorption, bioremediation, and stabilization. By lowering dangerous pollutants and facilitating their conversion into safer, more useable forms, these procedures improve the cleanup of drill cuttings. The possible uses of treated drill cuttings are thoroughly examined, demonstrating their value in agricultural techniques, land reclamation, and building materials.
The thesis ends with a forward-looking analysis of creative methods for managing drill cuttings, with an emphasis on sophisticated reuse techniques. This study emphasizes the possibility of turning drill cuttings into useful resources, which would help industrial processes use resources more efficiently and produce less waste
