Foodborne infections from protozoa: (Master thesis)

This thesis focuses on highlighting and explaining the criticality and the impact of foodborne infections affecting humans due to the presence of protozoa. In addition, it attempts to delve into each of these parasitic diseases of public health concern, methodically analyzing their spread, the often-complex biological cycle of each organism and the mechanisms by which they are transmitted to humans. In addition to the analysis of transmission, it examines in detail the impact of protozoan foodborne infections on human health, taking into account both short- and long-term consequences. In addition, the paper devotes a significant part to the evaluation of the available diagnostic tools and methods, while also looking at the future challenges that are likely to arise in the field of diagnosis and treatment of these parasitic diseases. In this context, specific strategies and measures are proposed, tailored both at individual and collective level, with the aim of preventing and limiting the spread of parasitic organisms. Drawing on a wide range of sources, including recent and past scientific studies, publications and reviews of international literature, the analysis of the findings is conducted in the light of the most up-to-date scientific data.
