Χημική ανάλυση απορροφούμενων λιπιδίων σε αρχαία αγγεία (Bachelor thesis)

Λιοτσάκη, Στυλιανή/ Liotsaki, Styliani

This thesis focuses on the study and chemical analysis of lipid residues absorbed in the walls of ancient ceramic vessels, aiming to provide insights into past dietary practices and thermal processes. The methodology involved the use of experimental replica vessels, where controlled cooking experiments with plant and animal materials were conducted. Sampling, extraction and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis were applied to determine the composition and distribution of lipids. The results highlighted a clear distinction between plant and animal lipids, thermal conditions were found to significantly affect lipid absorption and degradation, while lipid distribution in the locations (base, side) of the vessels yielded a characteristic profile, useful for better sampling activities .This research emphasizes the importance of archaeometric approaches in organic residue analysis and contributes to the interdisciplinary understanding of ancient daily life
