The present work aims to investigate geothermal energy and geothermal fields, with emphasis on the potential for energy exploitation in Greece and in particular in the Region of Central Macedonia. The subject of the work is the analysis of geothermal energy production technologies, the recording of existing geothermal fields, the evaluation of their applications in electricity production, district heating, agricultural uses and thermal spas, as well as the highlighting of their advantages, limitations and future prospects. The methodology includes bibliographic research, analysis of technological data and recording of geographical data of geothermal fields in Greece and the Region of Central Macedonia. In addition, modern energy production technologies are examined, such as dry steam units, binary stations and combined/hybrid cycles, as well as their applications in cogeneration and district heating systems. The work follows the main steps: presentation of geothermal energy and production technologies, analysis of geothermal fields at the national level, recording and mapping of the fields in the Region of Central Macedonia, and final evaluation of the technical, economic and environmental parameters. The main conclusions demonstrate that geothermal energy is a reliable and environmentally friendly energy source with significant development potential in Greece, while its applications can enhance energy security, efficiency and sustainability. At the same time, its successful exploitation requires modern technological solutions, an appropriate institutional framework and continuous monitoring of geothermal resources
