Boron Neutron Capture Therapy for Tumors (Bachelor thesis)

Στογιαννίδου, Αγγελική/ Stogiannidou, Angeliki

The paper deals with the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy for Tumors (BNCT) The purpose of this work is to analyze the process, which the treatment of tumors is achieved and the advantages it brings to the development of the field of medical nuclear physics. In particular, the importance of the use of boron is analyzed, as well as its role in radiation aimed at fighting tumors. This work is divided into two parts. In the first part, which is the general part of this work, about the theoretical part of this work. From a physical point of view, we get information such as radiation, etc. The second part presents the research approach to treatment, which consists of simulation using the program MCNP4A, where the arrangement for irradiating tumors using the BNCT (Boron neutron capture therapy) method was also studied. The research helped to reach some conclusions about the function of boron and the usefulness in the irradiation of tumors. Finally, some suggestions are highlighted for the most efficient use of the treatment
